About

Leawood Park, located at 6200 South Pierce Street in Littleton, Colorado, has been a cornerstone of the Leawood community since its establishment. The park's origins trace back to 1972 when 4.691 acres of land were deeded to the Leawood Civic Association (LCA). Recognizing the need for recreational spaces, LCA members convened on July 10, 1973, and agreed to establish a recreation district. This initiative led to the creation of the Leawood Metropolitan Recreation and Park District (LMRPD), officially approved by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on May 8, 1974.

Following its formation, the Park Board was tasked with developing the initial five-acre parcel into a community park. Today, Leawood Park boasts a variety of amenities, including children's playground equipment, a picnic shelter, a soccer field, a baseball field, and landscaped open spaces. These facilities cater to residents of all ages, providing a space for both active recreation and leisurely activities.

Over the years, LMRPD expanded its reach by acquiring additional lands. By February 1979, properties that would become Weaver Park (22 acres), Raccoon Hollar Park, and Kendall Park were deeded to the district. Further growth occurred in 1993 with the inclusion of the Country Farms development and in 2004 with the Vintage Reserve development, bringing the total managed parkland to nearly 40 acres. These expansions reflect the district's commitment to enhancing community recreation and preserving natural spaces.

Today, Leawood Park stands as a testament to community collaboration and foresight, offering residents a well-maintained and versatile recreational area that continues to evolve with the community's needs.
